7 Useful Apps for Munich


1. MVG - probably the most important and undoubtedly the most used app in Munich. Wherever you need to go, this is your guide to public transport, which provides live information and updates to Underground, S-Bahn and Busses. Since German train drivers striking constantly, it's great to keep up to date and offers alternative routes to your destination. Bonus: app let's you purchase tickets on the move! 

2. DriveNow - this is a cooperation between Sixt and BMW that provides chartering services in several cities across Germany. The mobile app allows users to locate and reserve Minis and BMWs and lets them find the right car for any trip. There is a base fee for the first 30 minutes and a rate per minute after that. Prices include rental, petrol, insurance, parking and maintenance. Awesome for a drive to the airport or to take home those extra few pints of milk from the supermarket. 

3. Eventbrite - this awesome app features a ticketing service to that enables people to search for events in different categories: art, food, culture film, music, etc. Users can then purchase tickets to events and use their phone as a virtual ticket. 

4. OEZ - one of Munich's biggest shopping centres, the Olympic Shopping Centre, offers customers a new 'love to shop' experience via their new app. The app is tailored to each customer and keeps them up to date with different offers, promotions and giveaways from their favourite shops. Through a profile, the user can narrow down information for products that they are interested in. Makes shopping in a large shopping centre so much easier. 

5. München by Portal München Betriebs GmbH & Co. KG - this TripAdvisor style app comes from the tourism board of Munich and it provides detailed information on sightseeing, food & drink, hotels, nightlife, taxis, hospitals and even cash machines. With reviews by fellow users, this is a great app for tourists but also for residents, who will find new bars or art galleries in places never imagined. 

6. Foursquare - while experiencing an exciting day in Munich, why not share some of the great places with friends on your social media via Foursquare? This way, it's easy to let someone know how great the breakfast tastes at Café Glockenspiel or that there's a sale on at Ludwig Beck. 

7. Oktoberfest - saves you from carrying one of those paper 'Wiesn Maps', which will be soaked after the first beer. And a map really is necessary if you're not already drunk, in which case it really doesn't matter where you are. This app provides info about all the large and smaller beer tents, with available seating and much more. The navigation part of the app will lead you straight to your chosen beer destination. The app also shows you the nearest toilets, underground stops or first aid room. Bonus: this app lets you find your friends if you've lost them.
