How to lose those Christmas pounds this January!
1. Drink more water - drinking at least 3 litres of water every day will keep you from feeling bloated and hungry! Fluids help expel toxins and waste from your body, so staying hydrated is key, especially if you'll be exercising a lot more. Lemon water is great and juices could be considered a healthy treat.
2. Cut down on bad carbs - white bread, sugary cereals and anything that has white flour won't help your weight loss, especially in your middle sections. Skip the white rice and pasta and try brown bread and whole grain foods instead.
3. Go Potassium - potassium rich foods stop your belly from bloating, so try eating bananas, avocados or kiwis to balance out those bodily fluids. A bonus is that you'll be able to go longer without eating after a potassium kick!
4. Cut down on sweets - this shouldn't be too hard. Most likely, you've already stopped eating those Christmas cookies, mince pies and Quality Streets because Christmas time is over. We all know it's hard to cut out those sweet treats from one day to another but try to limit yourself more.
5. Don't stop moving - it's not really enough to do your 50 crunches before bed. Start living a more active lifestyle. This means taking the stairs more often than the lift, leaving your car at home and walking to places more. Cardio activity will help you burn more calories.
6. Stay busy - the number one reason people usually snack is because they are bored. So keep yourself busy, read a book, go for a walk, find a new hobby. You'll be too busy doing something you really love instead of indulging. And if you must snack, try nuts, carrot sticks or an apple instead of that bag of crisps.
7. Get an app - there are so many great apps out there, that will make your work out so much more fun. It's like having a personal trainer that you didn't even have to pay for. Our favourite ones are Nike+ Training Club, Couch to 5K, 7 Minute Work Out or Nexercise!
Bonus tips: exercise with a friend, make a great work out playlist and find motivational quotes aka Just Do It!
