7 + 7 Reasons 2014 was awesome (thanks to UK Glamour Magazine!)

A lot happened in 2014, and unfortunately not everything was great; there was an outbreak of Ebola, Russia fighting with the Ukraine, flight MH370 disappearing, a South Korean ferry sinking, Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped and there were weeks of bloodshed in Gaza. However, thanks to UK Glamour Magazine, we managed to find 14 positive stories that got the world talking this year.

1. Fashion Trends: to everyone's relief, trainers were back in style, the ugly shoe - mainly in form of the Birkenstock made it's debut on the runways in February and the Alexander Wang x H&M collection was one of the most anticipated collaborations of the year.

2. The Sochi Olympics saw the first women's Ski Jumping, Holland dominating the ice, and everyone expecting Russia to start a war with the world over its anti-gay laws. In the end, the worst thing that happened was that one of the Olympic rings didn't catch fire. Phew!

3. THAT Selfie

4. We went Westeros wild: the Game of Thrones craze continued with the fourth season premiering in April and there was more sex, gore, war and twists than ever. We were glued to our TV screens.

5. Music we listened to: Sam Smith's whole album was an eargasm, Let It Go from the Frozen soundtrack is still stuck in our head, Beyonce had a moment with #Flawless, Ariana Grande & Iggy Azalea smashed it with Problem, Clean Bandit made us fall in love with violins again and Calvin Harris' 'Summer' had us dancing the nights away this summer.

6. World Cup Fever: Luis Suarez bit someone (again), England failed to win a game and Germany took home the trophy after beating host country Brazil 7-1.

7. Books we read: mainly books that have been turned into major motion pictures: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Oh and then there was Zoella's Girl Online.

8. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which managed to connect the whole world, from Mark Zuckerberg and your next door neighbour doing it. Our faves were German footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger's, Bill Gates' awesome DIY shower, Victoria Beckham & family rolling around in their back garden and Ben Affleck's video, which involved him dunking his wife in the pool and his kids adorably laughing in the background. Bonus: Most people donated a lot of money for a great cause!

9. Celebrity Weddings... : From Brangelina to KimYe and George Clooney (can you believe it), it seems like all the power couples got married this year (well except for Gwyneth and Chris, who consciously uncoupled). Our favourite dress was worn by the beautiful Fearne Cotton at her wedding to Jesse Wood, son of Rolling Stones' legend Ronnie Wood.
...and babies: Rose Dorothy (Scarlett Johansson), Apollo Flynn (Gwen Stefani), Esmeralda (Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling) and Wyatt Isabelle (Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis) all saw the light of day this year.

10. Hot new Gadgets: Apple unveiled a smart watch and the new iPhone 6, which sold more than 10m in the first week.

11. YouTube videos that went viral: the Ice Bucket Challenge wasn't the only video that had people talking and sharing. There was the 'First Kiss' video, which saw strangers making out after meeting just seconds before (also watch the sequel Undress Me), the one of a woman enduring hours of harassment while walking silently around in New York, Like a Girl, which attempted to change attitudes towards women and Jaqueline Bisset's Golden Globe Acceptance Speech.

12. Movies we watched: Gone Girl, Mockingjay, The Hobbit: Battle of the 5 Armies, Divergent, 22 Jump Street, Fault in our Stars

13. The rise of Kendall Jenner: from Chanel supermarkets, over Marc Jacobs and Givenchy runways to the cover of Teen Vogue, 2014 was Kendall Jenner's year. Seems like her new bestie Cara Delevigne has some competition.

14. Anniversaries: 2014 marked 100 years since the beginning of the First World War, 25 Years since the fall of the Berlin Wall and 10 years since the launch of Facebook. Wow, time really does fly, right?!
